On Friday I completely and utterly destroyed The Phil Factor and knocked some of my competition out of the way. Score one for me! Now I’m on to other things. In my continuing effort to achieve ultimate blogging supremacy I have decided it’s time to streamline my social media connections , specifically my Facebook connection to you.
As you may remember from my post, Better Blogging Through Facebook, I have a love/hate relationship with the social media behemoth. It has become increasingly difficult to reach people unless I pay for ads. And, here’s the real kick in the balls, even when I pay I don’t see a huge increase in connection.
But now Mark Zuckerberg has announced that he’s going to make it even harder for Facebook pages to generate organic reach, as they are moving towards more “personal connections” or some bullshit like that. You can read his full statement here. Of course, in that statement he never mentions the number of times in any given day that he begs me for money to boost my posts, but yeah, let’s just say it’s about more meaningful connection.
So, I’ve decided to scrap the blog’s Facebook page at the end of the month, not delete it entirely, but rather “unpublish” it and hope one day things get better. Until then, you can still find my blog posts on Facebook, but you’re going to have to follow my personal page if you want them. And you can do that by clicking here. Or you can find all my social media connections in my Follow This Blog page.
Or you can just scrap the whole thing, decide technology is too difficult, throw all your devices into a river, and move to a remote mountaintop to seek true enlightenment. Personally, I think it’s just easier to follow my personal Facebook page, but that’s just me. Whatever you decide, though, just don’t be an idiot and start eating Tide pods. That’s just dumb and you’re better than that.
I considered doing your suggestion of ditching all technology & seeking true enlightenment, but I thought better of that and have followed your Facebook instead. However, too late on the Tide pods thing. I find them very refreshing.

I can’t agree with you more on the Tide pods. These crazy teenagers are on to something.

I already follow your facebook page and unlike Haley, I will never try the Tide pods. I hear they have too many calories! All that sugar isn’t good for me! 😉

Maybe they’ll come out with Tide Pods Lite and you can enjoy the fun too.

Remote mountaintops are overrated.

It’s what I’ve always believed.

I’ve never seen a lot of traffic on my Facebook page either, though I’ve neve3r tried ‘boosting’ the posts either. As a writer, we’re supposed to have all these social media connections and except for WP, none of them really seems worth it!

Boosting them has never amounted to greater traffic for me. And I’ve heard other bloggers say the same. I’ve clearly not mastered the social media game so I’ll just stick to writing.

You think you’re sick? I’ve one upped you and deactivated my FB account until Zuckerberg see’s it my way. Right now he’s stumbling around wondering what to do to fiX this , probably eating tide pods.

He’s definitely eating Tide pods. It’s the only way to defeat the stress.

I’m heading for the mountaintop.

At least visit occasionally. We’ll save you some Tide pods.

I don’t think I can get excited enough about them.
The mountaintops are cold at this time of year, though, so I mightn’t stay long.

What is a real kick in the nuts is the fact that 200 people see my Facebook page post, but 3 people react or respond in some way. THAT is what frustrates the hell out of me. I apparently have a pretty large reach, but it does me not one bit of good if my “personal connections” don’t do their part. I HATE the social media side to blogging. I will follow your personal page ☺️.

Ooo this is an interesting one! I came across something about the upcoming changes but then I opted for ignorance and didn’t investigate further nor make any attempt to understand what it would mean. I’ll read that linky now and see what’s what exactly. Not sure what I’ll choose to do now either. Social media is definitely a love/hate thing for me too, perhaps more on the hate side more often than not. x

I’m so old school, or British or just dumb but what is a tide pod – it sounds like a salt water ice bath but I’m guessing that doesn’t have sugar or calories. Oh and PS well done on the Phil Factor global diss-a-thon – it’s gone virus or something. He was definitely too big for his slippers.

Yeah, I’m not holding my breath either that there will be a decrease in offers to boost my posts either. You would think that after so many years of not taking them up on their offer they would have taken the hint.
