Imagine the pleasant surprise I had when Riddle from the Middle visited my humble little blog to give me an award. It really made up for the fact that I accidentally threw a pile of my husband’s mail into the garbage. Now, normally, that wouldn’t be such a big deal, but I threw it into a big old glob of yellow mustard. So, my husband is going to come home from a week long business trip to mail that smells like French’s.
Anyhoo, back to the award. Firstly, thank you! That was awfully kind of you to recognize my blog. Secondly, y’all should go read RFTM because it’s a great blog. Every time I read it I end up laughing or getting my heartstrings pulled or both of those things happen all at once, which I think is a pretty great combination. Thirdly, here are the rules:
- Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
- Write a post to show your award.
- Give a brief story of how your blog started.
- Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
- Select 15 other bloggers for this award.
- Comment on each of their blogs, letting them know they’re nominated and linking back to this post.
How My Blog Started: This isn’t my first blog, this is my fourth, if I remember correctly. I had a blog about running, but that was short lived. Then, I had a blog to document my first year homeschooling my son. Since I had other things to say that didn’t involve education I started another blog, just your basic humorous observations sort of thing.
Then, I found the tumor that changed everything. I tried to write after my surgery, but my heart wasn’t really in it. That, combined with the shocking discovery that a blogger who was my friend and mentor was found to be sexually harassing some of my fellow female bloggers, shut down my love for writing.
You can’t keep a good Irish girl down for long, though. It was inevitable that my need to write would surface again. After my recurrence, I began a sort of mini-blog over at Instagram (you might want to just go ahead and click that link and follow me). With each post, I seemed to want to write more and more, but it wasn’t until I forced myself to take a 30 day social media detox that I had the time to focus and conceptualize this blog.
#1 Piece of Advice to New Bloggers: If it doesn’t light your fire, turn you on, piss you off, crack you up, or make your heart skip a beat don’t write about it.
#2 Piece of Advice to New Bloggers: Have gratitude for your readers and fellow bloggers. Read other blogs, interact, comment, and collaborate.
The 15 Bloggers I Have Nominated:
Since I’m starting over in the blog game, I decided to nominate fifteen people that have 100 followers or less. Most of my nominees have less than 50 followers, just like me. Go check out these little blogs that could, give ’em some love.
